Alexandra Daddario Backs Percy Jackson Actress Leah Jeffries Despite Opposition from Fans

Leah Sava Jeffries is receiving some demigod magic from Alexandra Daddario.

In the Percy Jackson movies, Alexandra played the half-goddess, half-mortal Annabeth Chase. On May 11, she tweeted, “Leah Jeffries is going to be an incredible Annabeth!!!” in support of Leah.

Her remark was in response to negative reactions from certain fans upon learning that Leah would be starring as Annabeth in the upcoming Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

Not just Alexandra is standing up for Leah. Author of Percy Jackson Rick Riordan criticized fans in a blog post on May 10 for “bullying and harassing a child”. “It’s unfortunate that such posts need to be written, but they do,” Riordan wrote. However, feel free to discuss this casting with me if you have any issues. Nobody else is to blame but you.”

“I have been clear, as the author, that I was looking for the best actors to inhabit and bring to life the personalities of these characters, and that physical appearance was secondary for me,” Riordan, who also writes for the Disney+ series, said about the casting process.

“That’s what we did. It took us a full year to go through this procedure and choose the finest candidates. The best trio is this one. “This is Annabeth Chase, Leah Jeffries.”

Noting that many critics are complaining that Jeffries doesn’t resemble the character he created in the books, he said, “Friends, that is racism.”

Disney+ character Annabeth is described as a “true daughter of Athena with a gift for strategy and a curious mind.” She is one of three demigods; the other two are Grover (Aryan Simhadri) and Percy (Walker Scobell).

In an Instagram post from May 9, Jeffries said she’s not letting the criticism get to her. Jeffries told detractors, “You’re just wasting your time.” “I remain optimistic. Everyone else exudes confidence. Others are pleased for me. Don’t try to undermine me, then. It will not succeed.”

This summer, Jeffries, Scobell, and Simhadri will start filming the much awaited Disney+ series.
