Michael Latt, the son of Sundance Institute Director Michelle Satter, was killed; a woman was arrested.

Producer David Latt’s son founded Lead with Love, a marketing and social justice strategy business.

Michael Latt, the creator of the entertainment marketing company Lead With Love, was shot on Monday, and a woman has been taken into custody.

After being shot in his house on Monday night, the 33-year-old passed away from his wounds and was taken to the hospital. David Latt, a film producer, and Michelle Satter, the founding senior director of the Sundance Institute, were the parents of Latt. Franklin, his brother, works as an agent with CAA.

Satter posted on X (previously Twitter) that his beloved son Michael Latt had been the victim of a horrible act of violence this week. “Michael dedicated his professional life to assisting artists, advocating for institutions that fostered the development of artists of color and used narrative to effect lasting change. We honor his memory, love, and kindness.

In a news statement issued on Wednesday, the Los Angeles Police Department stated that 36-year-old Jameelah Elena Michl, a resident of Los Angeles, had been taken into custody for allegedly shooting Latt after entering into his Mid-Wilshire residence.

Latt established Lead with Love with the goal of highlighting the contributions made by underrepresented creatives in the entertainment industry. Latt has experience in both social justice and entertainment marketing. He collaborated with Netflix and the Emerson Collective in addition to directors Ryan Coogler and Ava DuVernay. Lead to Love further collaborated with non-profits such as Vote to Live and Black Girls Rock on impact projects.

A statement from the Sundance Institute said, “Monday evening marked a heartbreaking tragedy for Michelle Satter, her husband David Latt, and their son Franklin Latt.” “Our Sundance family is in deep sorrow over the untimely passing of their brother and son, Michael Latt, who was the victim of a senseless act of violence,”

The statement went on, “He devoted his professional life to helping others, using art, storytelling, and other media to bring about long-lasting change and inspire hope, love, and community.” Michael’s family, friends, and coworkers will carry on his legacy and work, and he will never be forgotten. The family, his fiancé Hannah Lovingood and their loved ones, as well as everyone who had the honor of knowing Michael, are all recipients of our community’s love and support.We respectfully ask that the family’s privacy be respected at this trying time as they mourn the passing of their beloved Michael.

Social media tributes to Latt were shared by members of the entertainment industry when word of his passing spread. “Words cannot begin to describe the loss Michael Latt’s murder has caused us. “He was the finest of all of us,” Black List creator Franklin Leonard stated on X.
