The executive team behind Netflix’s live-action “Avatar: The Last Airbender” series is changing.
Albert Kim, who created the series and oversaw the first season as showrunner, is retiring, Variety has learnt. Executive producers Christine Boylan and Jabbar Raisani will take the lead on the program moving forward. The show has already been renewed by Netflix for two more seasons, which will end with Season 3.
On the first season of “Last Airbender,” Boylan worked as a co-executive producer and Raisani as an executive producer, director, and VFX supervisor. For Seasons 2 and 3, Kim will continue to serve as an executive producer. An individual with knowledge of the matter claims that Kim signed a contract with Disney to serve as an executive producer on the “Percy Jackson” series in addition to developing new projects for the company because she wanted to pursue new avenues after the multi-year development process on “Last Airbender.”
Boylan’s other credits include the popular Peacock series “Poker Face,” in addition to projects like “Citadel” at Amazon, “The Punisher” on Netflix, and “Cloak and Dagger” at Freeform. She is also a talented writer of comic books for DC, Marvel, BOOM Studios, Tokyopop, and recently had her stage debut with her science fiction play “Analogue” in London.

Raisani has worked on visual effects for a number of Netflix series, including “Game of Thrones,” “The Flash,” and “Lost in Space,” in addition to “Last Airbender.” In addition to directing episodes of “Last Airbender,” he has also directed episodes of “Lost in Space.”

The famous Nickelodeon series of the same name served as the inspiration for “Last Airbender.” Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, Dallas Liu, Ken Leung, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, and Daniel Dae Kim starred in the first season of the live-action version.
Rideback is represented by executive producers Dan Lin, Lindsey Liberatore, Michael Goi, and Raisani in addition to Albert Kim. The first two episodes were directed by Goi, and the third and fourth were directed by Raisiani. Jet Wilkinson directed the last two episodes of Season 1 while Roseanne Liang directed episodes five and six.
